PHONE 082 453 8428

View Gordon's Bay, the coastline and mountains from the deck of the charter boat Nimbus on any of the numerous Bay and Sunset cruises departing from Gordon's Bay Waterfront or the Old Harbour in Gordon's Bay.

Nimbus is a fifty foot wooden motor boat launched in 1956, and originally used as a commercial fishing vessel and as a rescue boat with the National Sea Rescue Institute. Nimbus has been cruising the Cape seas for the past 45 years and is affectionately known as the Grand Old Lady of Gordon's Bay. Recently restored with a lot of attention to the woodwork, and new engines, Nimbus now caters for the fun loving people cruising on her.

Enjoy magical Sunset and Bay cruises aboard Nimbus, with her happy crew who can cater for a romantic cruise for two or group bookings for special occasions and corporate outings such as a relaxing traditional braai (barbeque) while anchored of the lovely Bikini beach.

Encounter whales during their calving season as well as dolphins, seals and Jackass penguins whilst cruising in False Bay.

Sir Lowry's Pass and the Historic Wagon Trails.

Sir Lowry's Pass, the pass leading over the Hottentots Holland mountains to the Overberg was constructed at a cost of 7 011 English Pounds, and was opened on 6 July 1930. A view point offers panoramic views of Gordon's Bay 450m below and the entire Helderberg basin as well as large parts of the Cape Peninsula. The summit of the pass is also a popular launching spot for Para gliders.

With the new road came more accidents and the phantom of a fast-traveling Buick which races along the road towards the top of the pass, only to hurtle over the edge. The site of the old Summit Tea Room at the top is also said to be haunted by the ghost of its owner, who died tragically. The tea room subsequently burnt down.

In the past travel between the Helderberg and the Overberg was hindered by the formidable Hottentots Holland Mountain Range. A rough road through the pass enabled only a few wagons to pass at a time and deep ruts left by the wagons still remain as a reminder of the hardships of the feat. The ruts are still in original form and were declared National Monuments in 1958. A hiking trail to explore the tracks starts opposite Steenbras Dam Entrance. No permit required.

Drinking Water.

Tap water in the Gordon's Bay area is safe for drinking, but be careful of untreated water from streams and ponds.
Various brands of bottled mineral water are also freely available in most shops.
